The Climate Change Affects Agriculture Sector the Most

The third session of the “UN Talks” programme, organized by the Turkish World Monitoring Center under the theme of “COP 29 Azerbaijan,” was held this week. As part of the program, Yeşim Saraçoğlu delivered a presentation titled “Climate Change and Agricultural Production: How Climate Change Affects Agriculture in Azerbaijan and the Challenges Faced in the Agricultural Sector.” In her presentation, Saraçoğlu highlighted the impacts of climate change on agriculture in Azerbaijan, emphasizing that with the increasing global warming, Azerbaijan is mostly affected in the agriculture sector, directly impacting the economy. She also discussed how climate change, leading to a decrease in rainfall and humidity over time, affects food production and consequently has a negative impact on food demand. Additionally, the presentation addressed the importance of taking steps to reduce greenhouse gases and the significance of using modern irrigation systems instead of traditional ones in the context of climate change actions. The session concluded by discussing measures to adapt to climate change and analyze and resolve the causes of climate change, emphasizing actions that can be taken in this regard.
